The only reliable guideline in choosing a lawn is the basic criteria, or types of grass mixtures. They determine the conditions necessary for growing green carpets, and the possibility of their use, and the specifics of care.

Today, even in the line of one manufacturer, you can find not a few varieties of lawns, but many of their names. When choosing a specific grass mixture for a lawn, it is sometimes impossible to understand what the difference between the individual options is. Garden lawns are divided into 5 types:

  1. Ground lawns
  2. Common lawns
  3. Sports lawns
  4. Moorish or flowering lawns
  5. Shady lawns
  6. Alternative or non-grassy lawns

Rolled lawns are often attributed to the types of lawn. But this is more of a type, or kind of technology for creating lawns, and not a separate species. Rolled lawns are also ground or ordinary, athletic and even shade-tolerant. Choosing a sowing lawn or laying rolls will require both different preparation and different care. But the roll lawn should not be called a separate type of emerald grounds.

Front ground lawns

Ground lawns are also rightly called ceremonial. These are really lawns, playing the role of a purely decorative one, that is, as a decoration and an impeccable green carpet. They really look like living velvet, they are the most prestigious and aesthetically attractive view of green lawns. They do not walk on the ground grass, they are unstable to the load, and even the games of animals can violate their ideal state.

Ground grass is most often used where you need to create a "perfect picture." They are placed in the front garden, near the house, at the ceremonial flower beds, emphasizing their beauty with the best of objects of small architecture and garden sculpture. At the same time, there is only one rule in creating ground grass - their area should exceed the area of decorative compositions located nearby, and those objects that they “shade”.

The main advantages of ground grass:

  • smooth and dense coating;
  • flawless emerald color;
  • highest decorativeness.

Ground grass is created from elite grass mixtures consisting of meadow bluegrass and timothy with addition ryegrass, field trees and fescue red.

Ordinary or landscape gardening lawns

A lawn that can withstand a certain load, but at the same time decorative enough to remain an adornment of a site that does not require complicated maintenance and creates a classic coating, is an ordinary or garden lawn. It is such lawns that are created in urban squares and parks, they are stable, but lacking endurance to heavy loads and absolute impeccability, this is a kind of intermediate option between sports and ground lawns, a compromise between aesthetics and practicality.

The main advantages of ordinary lawns

  • universality;
  • unpretentiousness;
  • the ability to create an emerald carpet on complex terrain;
  • seed availability.

Ordinary lawns are created mainly from common field and field comb. To enhance endurance, this mixture is added red fescue, pasture ryegrass and bluegrass meadow.

Sports ultra-hardy lawns

Special types of lawns that can withstand even a constant heavy load, not for nothing called sports. These are the lawns that create for golf courses, playgrounds and sports competitions.

Among sports mixes, football, tennis, golf and lawn for playgrounds are separately distinguished, but all of them are characterized by almost the same high endurance. They require very unusual and thorough care, low mowing, and for private gardens such lawns are very rare.

Sports lawns are planted or created from rolled lawns. A special drainage is laid for them and irrigation is carefully thought out, any failures in which will lead to a rapid loss of decorativeness of the green carpet.

The main advantages of sports lawns:

  • resistance to heavy loads and active movement;
  • dense texture;
  • low grass.

Sports lawns are sown from mixtures consisting of pasture ryegrass, meadow grass and meadow fescue. The seed rate for such lawns is 1.5-2 times greater than when creating any other lawn. And the mixtures themselves are one of the most expensive.

This is a unique type of lawn cover created not only with cereals, but also with flowering or ornamental plants. It is easy to create and even easier to care for.

But according to the peculiarities of creation, and also according to aesthetic characteristics, meadow and Moorish lawns are difficult to distinguish.

The main advantages of flowering lawns:

  • fit perfectly into landscape styles;
  • do not require complicated care;
  • easy to grow;
  • colorful;
  • attract honey plants and butterflies.

Seeds are added to ordinary lawn grasses, which still remain the basis of the Moorish lawn. forget-me-nots, resident, clover, carnations, poppy, daisies, flax, bells and other wildflowers.
