13 proven tomato varieties that I recommend planting
I have been growing tomatoes for a long time, and I have varieties that I constantly plant and I know that they will not let me down. At the same time, I carefully follow the latest breeding and every year I try for myself new ones. In central Russia, where I live, the weather is often changeable and not always favorable for heat-loving tomatoes. Therefore, I am interested in new varieties and hybrids, unpretentious in cultivation and at the same time tasty and fruitful. I want to tell you about tomatoes that I especially liked this year. I grow tomatoes in a polycarbonate greenhouse and in open ground.
Tomatoes that I grew in a greenhouse
1. Tomato "Antonovka honey"
A new variety with green fruits interested in its name. I wanted to grow and taste these tomatoes to taste. I liked the variety. Tomatoes, indeed, with a honey flavor, sweet, fragrant. The tomato pulp is tasty, fleshy, of an unusual color - green, and in the center - bright pink.
We ate them fresh, used in salads. The peel of the tomato is dense, but not stiff, so they are perfect for pickling.
By maturity, these tomatoes are mid-season. They have no special requirements for growing conditions. It is possible to grow a variety both in open ground and in a greenhouse. In the greenhouse, my tomatoes grew, somewhere around 1.5 meters. Plants must be planted and tied.
2. Tomato "Marshmallows in Chocolate"
A variety with beautiful and tasty tomatoes. The fruits were of average weight (approximately 150 grams), interesting color: brown-red with green strokes.
Tomato tastes wonderful - sweet without sourness. The pulp is juicy, the skin is thin, the tomatoes did not crack during the growing process. In addition, the variety was very fruitful and fruiting until the colds. The combination of all these qualities attracted me, I will plant again next year. It is very disappointing when the variety is fruitful, and the fruits, like plastic, or, conversely, are tasty, and the yield is very low.
We used fresh tomatoes: for salads, sliced. These tomatoes are not suitable for pickling, but the lecho and tomato paste turned out to be excellent - tasty, rich dark red.
Of the "minuses" it is worth noting unsuitability for salting and the impossibility of long-term storage. This is important for me, usually I have a large tomato crop, so I do a lot of harvesting and love when tomatoes can be stored fresh for longer.
Plants of this variety need pinching. I formed my tomatoes, according to the recommendations, into 2 stems. In the greenhouse, they reached a height of 1.7 meters, no more.
3. Tomato Golden Domes
I really liked this variety with bright orange fruits. Tomatoes are delicious, juicy, meaty. We used them fresh, in the blanks - for ketchup, lecho, adjika. Tomatoes with gelatin for the winter turned out to be very beautiful. And the juice is also original - with a fruity flavor.
Of the large varieties in me, he was one of the first to mature. Although by description it refers to mid-season. An interesting feature of the variety: the first fruits are more rounded, and the subsequent ones are heart-shaped. My tomatoes were up to about 400 grams. In the upper brushes, they did not grow much smaller, remaining large enough.
When growing this variety, I liked that, when shot green, the tomatoes were ripened without problems at home.

This variety can be grown both in a greenhouse and in open ground. In the greenhouse, this variety reaches 1.5 meters, in open ground it is less.
Garter and formation are required, a lot of stepsons are formed, so you need to remember to form a bush. I formed it into 2 stems - left the stepson under the first flower brush.
According to many gardeners, this variety shows even better results in open ground than in a greenhouse, so next year I’ll try to plant it on the street.
4. Tomato "Red Arrow F1"
I heard about this hybrid for a long time, the reviews are very good, so I decided to try to grow it myself.
I really liked this tomato. Grew it in a greenhouse, but, judging by the description, it was possible in the open ground. The bush is not very tall, about 1.5 meters, but the whole was covered with fruits. Tomatoes are all smooth, rounded. When ripe, they became a deep red color, and, inside the fetus, too.
Wonderful tomatoes - juicy, fleshy, very tasty. What is very pleased, because not always productive hybrids have very tasty fruits. The fruit weight was up to about 150 grams.
We used tomatoes fresh and for pickling. Hybrid carpal, forms at least 10 brushes, in the brush 7-9 tomato. Plants had to be stepsoned and necessarily tied to a support. Under the weight of a rich harvest, they would simply break.
It so happened that one of the plants of this hybrid turned out to be in the shade of a watering barrel, and this did not affect the harvest at all. There was also a lot of tomato on this plant. Later in the literature, I read that this hybrid tolerates shading well, so it can even be used in compacted landings.
I decided for myself: I will plant this hybrid every year, it is unpretentious, tasty and very productive.
5. Tomato "Malachite Box"
A wonderful variety with tomatoes of an unusual color: they are green, with a yellow tint. Surprisingly, the taste is incomparable, really liked. Tomatoes are sweet, fragrant, there is an original fruity flavor. The pulp is very tender, emerald color, few seeds. Tomatoes of this variety are wonderful in "colorful" salads along with pink, yellow and red tomatoes.
Bush up to 1.5 meters high. I grew it in a greenhouse, but you can also in open ground. The tomatoes themselves are large, up to about 400 grams, there were a lot of them on the bush.
When growing this variety, it is important to determine the time of fruit ripening in time. Their color is better not to focus. When the tomatoes ripen, they become soft to the touch. When harvesting for ripening at home, this variety is better to harvest separately from other red varieties, so as not to miss the moment of ripening.
Among the shortcomings is the inability to store the crop for a long time, the tomatoes become watery. The variety is for fresh consumption only. Due to the color of the tomato, the blanks from it will be “on the fan”. Therefore, I’ll certainly plant, but not very much.

6. Tomato "Citrus Garden"
This tomato variety will also be planted next year. Very fruitful, with unusual fruits. The fruits are oval, with a "nose", there are many of them, they remind lemons, hence the name of the variety.
Most of all I liked these pickling tomatoes. They did not crack in the jar and looked very beautiful among tomatoes of other colors. I specially made such beautiful pickles for the holidays, small lemons look very unusual on the holiday table. I really liked the taste of the salted tomatoes of this variety, and when they were fresh, they seemed a little dry, not so juicy.
Tomatoes tied with large brushes, but matured gradually, until the colds. In my greenhouse, these tomatoes grew to a height of 2 meters or more. They needed to be stepsoned, and the hands should be tied. I liked the yield of this variety, there were a lot of tomatoes.
7. Tomato "Curiosity"
This is a cherry tomato. Usually I don’t plant a lot of them, 1-2 shrubs for pickling. Tomatoes of this variety are of unusual red-brown color. I decided to try them in salting along with other colorful tomatoes.
I liked the tomatoes, juicy, sweet, very tasty. The variety is wonderful not only for salting, but also for fresh food. Harvest I was very pleased, there were a lot of tomatoes. Therefore, we were able to pickle these tomatoes for the winter and ate them fresh.
I also liked the fact that the variety is early ripe, but it bears fruit for a long time, tomatoes were tied until the colds.
The grade is high, approximately 1.8 meters, so it must be tied up. I formed my plants in 2 stems. In plants of this variety stepchildren grow quite quickly, so it should be regularly stepsoned.

8. Tomato "Orange"
This variety was liked by its unpretentiousness, wonderful taste and the versatility of the use of its fruits.
The harvest was as if calibrated - the tomatoes are smooth, perfectly round, beautiful, yellow. They are very good for pickling and other preparations, but we also ate them fresh with pleasure. Tomatoes are dense, but not tough, very tasty, few seeds, juicy flesh.
The variety is fruitful, mainly the fruits were 200 grams, but some grew much larger.
The variety is determinant, medium height. I grew on the street under a film shelter, but you can also in a greenhouse. Plants must be planted and tied.
9. Tomato "Dietary healthy man"
Another variety of yellow tomatoes. But this variety has more saturated orange-yellow fruits. They liked the taste - juicy, sweet, few seeds. We used fresh tomatoes and for harvesting.
In terms of ripening, this variety is early. At the same time, tomatoes were stored fresh until the end of October, which is very important to me. I always plant several varieties that can be stored long enough to eat longer vegetables of my harvest.
Plants of this variety are low, in the open ground they were about 1 meter tall. The fruits were quite large, 300 grams each. We collected quite a few tomatoes from each bush, that is, the yield of this variety is good. Plants needed to be stepsoned and tied to a support.
10. Tomato "Gigolo"
I heard a lot about this variety that it is, first of all, wonderful for pickling. In fact, tomatoes of this variety are good for canning. In shape, they resemble sausages, the pickling turned out to be original and at the same time very tasty. And we weakened them. These tomatoes are fleshy, but slightly dry, with a dense but not thick skin - ideal for drying.
Gigolo tomatoes are well kept. My harvest was quite large, and I did not have time to process everything at once. These tomatoes were stored without problems for a month and a half, while tomatoes of other varieties became soft and spoiled.
Very impressed with the yield. Tomatoes were perfectly tied, there were a lot of them. The bush strewn with fruits looked very beautiful. To avoid infecting the fruit with diseases, at the end of the summer I was forced to pick green tomatoes. I was struck by the fact that after harvesting plants tied up a lot more tomatoes. The fruiting of this variety continued until the colds.
I liked that this variety does not need to be stepson, because this procedure is time-consuming. In recommendations for the cultivation of this variety, it was written that it can be grown without garter to the support. Indeed, the bush is compact, standard, but when the tomatoes began to be tied up intensely, the plants could not withstand such a load. I liked the variety in all respects, I will plant it every year.
11. Tomato "Golden Heart"
A low unpretentious variety with orange-yellow fruits of a beautiful heart-shaped form. Tomatoes ripened very early, and continued to be tied all summer. Harvest pleased, there were a lot of tomatoes and all of them are of excellent quality. The tomato pulp is juicy, fleshy, aromatic. A little seed.
According to the description, this variety is suitable for baby and diet food. Indeed, the taste is excellent, with almost no acidity. The peel of the tomato is dense, but not stiff. We used tomatoes for fresh food, for salting, cooking lecho, sauces, adjika.
Plants of the Golden Heart variety are low, 60-80 centimeters in the open ground, but sprawling, so they do not need to be planted close to each other.
The variety must be tied up, tomatoes grow quite large and can break plants. I formed my bushes, but, according to reviews, they could be grown without pinching.
12. Tomato "Leningrad Chill"
Very unpretentious cold-resistant variety, specially created for the risky farming zone. Early variety, I specially planted it for the first harvest.
I liked it. The bushes were small, 40 centimeters, they were strewn with fruits. Tomatoes are not small, medium in size, about 80-100 grams. Tomato ripening started in the first ten days of July.
Tomatoes taste good, with a slight acidity. Of course, we ate our first tomato crop, we didn’t even think about any preparations.
The variety requires minimal care, stepsons in the sinuses of the first 5-6 leaves. But it must be tied to a support.
13. Tomato "Buffalo Heart"
Very good variety. Low, up to 1 meter, unpretentious, productive. Heart-shaped tomatoes, great taste. The color of the tomato is raspberry pink, the pulp is sweet, juicy, there are few seeds. The variety is fruitful, tomatoes are grams of 250-300, there were many. We used them fresh and for blanks.
Pleased with long fruiting. Tomato bushes tied fruit until the colds. At the same time, the variety showed good resistance to diseases.
I grew this variety in open ground, but it is possible to plant both in a greenhouse and under temporary shelters. Indoors, the height of the plant will be greater, up to 1.5 meters.
Finally I want to say: through the efforts of breeders of remarkable varieties and hybrids of tomatoes, a lot has been bred at this time. In such abundance is not easy to navigate. Plant those varieties that you succeed every year, and try new products; perhaps you will like some sort of variety in terms of quality. Growing a tomato is not an easy task and you need to try different varieties that will delight both taste and harvest.
